: Description
The central objective of this project is to provide the conditions for a qualitative step forward on the existing platform of multidisciplinary know-how in sensing and imaging, towards the development of technology and instrumentation oriented to life sciences applications.
Several other related objectives are also linked to this project: establishment of a formal partnership involving institutions that have been working together along the years on R&D problems relevant to the central objective stated; enhancement of existing collaborations with prestigious international institutions that have R&D activity in these areas, and launching of new ones when considered necessary for the achievement of the project goals; to proceed and expand the existing training programmes oriented to post-graduation (doctoral programmes) and professional objectives.
Keeping in mind the central objective of the project, the consortium is organized looking for the enhancement of the present competences of the partners and to trigger those that are compatible with their identity and important for the success of each institution. The project activities address R&D in nanosciences, nanotechnology and materials, optical and optoelectronic technologies and systems. Simply as an illustrative exercise, the involvement of the partners within these general areas is indicated as follows:
NanoSciences and Nanotechnologies:
: FCUP, IFIMUP, REQUIMTE, INESC Porto
Optical/Optoelectronic Technologies:
: INESC Porto, FiberSensing, REQUIMTE, FCUP
Systems:
: Siemens Medical Solutions, FiberSensing, IPO
